April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players to have won medals more than once at an Olympics. Ross will compete in Tokyo for her third Olympic gold medal along with Alix Klineman, a first-time Olympian. But more than that, Ross hopes to win the first Olympic gold. It could be the last opportunity she gets as she is 39 years old. Nevertheless, she remains certain of taking top honors. Ross stated via NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even playing well, I think we could get the gold medal." It's also going to be a matter of chance. Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in the year 1982. Her parents and her sister were residents in the area. Ross played in numerous activities while at Newport Harbor High School. As a prep-athlete, she also played indoor track and volleyball. Although she was a pro when playing indoors, it was clear that her abilities were higher than normal. According to her bio, she played a middle blocker and an outside hitting volleyball player during her high-school career. Thanks to her hard work she was named an 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. The skills she showed in volleyball also brought her an Orange County Athlete of the Awards in the year 2000. Ross and Klineman have been continuing to play from the year 2017. The reality is that Ross was an important player on the beach volleyball circuit before joining the duo. Actually Ross has been a winner of several significant tournaments during her time with two partners. One is a volleyball legend. The pair teamed with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and also was Klineman's personal trainer. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who won the world title together with Kessy in 2009 was also significant on the world stage. The duo eventually captured a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends which took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, edged their opponents to claim the gold medal. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. Together, they won beach volleyball bronze for the Rio Olympics in 2016. In high school and the several years prior to hitting the beach as a professional Ross played with the Trojans of USC as a collegiate. She had a great run during her time in college. The year 2000 was her freshman year. was when she won the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman's of the award and become an All-American. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans reach the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year, but she still repeated in the ranks of an All-American. In her two final years with the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them achieve consecutive championships. For her part, she cemented her place as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the top female volleyball players at colleges across the United States. Ross majored in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross never saw her daughter reach the top of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. She continues to remember her deceased parent close and close.
